Portfolio @ VAPORXIA / YC Tiffany Tsai
Yu Ching x Tiffany Tsai

YCT is the initials of my real name. My friends know me as Tiffany, and I'm an aspiring artist/designer from Vancouver, BC. I want to live my life immersed in my passion and explore all kinds of possibilities. I am self taught in digital media, but grew up with a drawing & painting background. Currently, I am undergoing the confusing process of producing a portfolio to get into design school.

"If you can change the way people think. The way they see themselves. The way they see the world. You can change the way people live their lives. That's the only lasting thing you can create."

FAQS

How did you learn to use photoshop?
I got my hands on photoshop from my dad's company when I was 12, and have been using it on and off ever since. One summer break, I spent so much time on it because I was in a foreign country and didn't have anything to do. Also, there was a periodic obsession with neopets that taught me coding basics. I would love to learn how to code like a pro.

With any medium, if you can imagine what you want to create, and be driven to do it, you can find a way to do it. One of the best ways to teach yourself is to mimic an inspiring artwork, but without knowing how they came about making it. This will force you to create the effect your own way.

Where do you get your resources?
I don't use any downloaded/premade resources anymore because I am now trying to apply for school. However, deviantart has always been rich with resources, and in you go to my "others" section, you can find some brushes and textures I have created to use for free (credits appreciated).

What are your inspirations?
My all time favourite source of graphic inspiration is depthcore.com, and my favourite graphic designer is Peter Jaworowski. More traditionally, I find the works of surrealists Ernst, Dali, and photographer Jerry Uelsmann influential. But a lot of the time, I am simply bored and put on some music and photoshop away. Of course, even when I do that, I feel like I end up with work that has been influenced by all the work I have looked at in the past. It's like, the more artwork you have looked at, the "bigger" the capacity of your creativity you can draw upon. Also, I am a little geek in love with fantasy novels. Fantasy and SF writers definitely have some of the craziest world building around, and some books leaving me thinking in circles and sleep deprived.

What kind of camera do you use?
Nikon D5000 with Nikkor 35mm 1:1.8G DX lens. (:
